Working with Aker Kvaerner of Norway, HGI has manufactured and delivered a prime power generation system for powering navigational aids in the Sakhalin oil fields, off Russia's East coast.

HGI created a containerised mutual standby system, with one generator operating 24 hours a day for 6 months, and a second generator taking over for another 6 months to allow for servicing.   Whichever generator is offline for 6 months automatically starts itself and runs for a few hours each week, in order to prevent start up problems due to freezing temperatures.

Supplying the sets was, however, only part of the process.  Two of HGI's Engineers flew out to the site to commission the sets, working in freezing conditions and working extremely hard for two weeks, to get the sets ready for towing out to the drop zone.

With shipping charts updated at irregular intervals, the Harrington sets are absolutely essential, and failure could spell disaster, with every vessel in the area being without any navigational help in this ever changing environment.

The Sakhalin-1 Project is an oil and gas development on the North Eastern shelf of Sakhalin Island. The project area is comprised of the Chayvo, Odoptu and Arkutun-Dagi fields, with total recoverable reserves estimated to be 2.3 billion barrels of oil (307 million tons) and 17.1 trillion cubic feet of natural gas (485 billion cubic meters).
