AMF FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

Why do I need a Standby Generator?

With the passing of time more and more home and office equipment is dependent on electricity. Telephone, lights, computers, even life support systems all require electrical power. Unfortunately, we are reaching a point, where electricity companies may not be able to respond at times of peak demand.  Add to that the actions of vandalism and possible terrorism and it is clear that the supply of electricity will not be trouble free.  A standby generator provides you with your own power when the Electricity Board cannot.

What is needed?

An HGI generator, and AMF panel. You must get a qualified electrician to undertake the installation.  The generator may be sited outside or in an out-building.  Consideration should be given to ventilation and exhaust fumes.   Harrington Generators are experienced manufacturers and can give advice on siting etc.

What size generators?

With the help of the Harrington team, you should look at the power consumption of the essential items you may wish to operate during a power failure.

What does the AMF Panel do?

It senses the mains and when the mains supply fails, or drops below limits, it controls the generator start up and the change over to generator supply.  When the mains supply returns, it controls the change over to mains supply and the closing down of the generator.

Is it expensive or complicated?

NO.  The total cost is not normally high and it can add value to the price of your property.
HGI Ltd have been making generators for over 21 years, so have a great deal of experience with standby applications.  Speak to us, the dealer, or your electrician, who will explain the work involved. Once fitted an AMF Standby System is easy to use, test and maintain.
